This diagram illustrates the mounting of a picket casting. The welding tab allows for welding or epoxy to secure the casting to the square steel picket. Design your project as shown with no more than a casting on every other picket, since the castings actually fill two spaces between pickets. Allow enough space between each picket for the casting to fit. If you divide the picket casting width by two, that is the minimum spaces that should be allowed between the pickets. Add a little space for clearance. The design of your project can include less picket castings. It is not necessary to fill every space. The top and bottom rail usually consist of 1/2" x 1" x 1/2" steel channel as a minimum standard. This allows the 1/2" picket to sit within the channel and welding so the weld does not show. |
