Vinyl pergolas have become increasingly popular for their aesthetics, longevity, and lack of maintenance. They are also fun to build!
Building a Vinyl Pergola requires basic carpentry skills such as reading a tape measure, level, and square. Measure twice - cut once! Safe and proper use of a hammer drill (for concrete surfaces), circular saw, drill, ratchets and sockets, and possibly a miter saw and table saw can be required. Building principles of building a vinyl pergola are similar to that of a deck: Set load bearing posts/ columns, set structural beams on columns for strength and rigidity, lay rafters perpendicular to beams and secure. A variety of vinyl shade cover can then be applied: 1-1/2" - 3" slats, lattice, or other cover. Some vinyl components will require aluminum stiffeners specifically designed for strength, or treated lumber for support inside PVC. Trim all components with PVC pergola ends and vinyl post trim. We also offer PVC finished ends for beams, rafters, and 'pickets'.
Our vinyl pergola kits are the best place to start. We offer several professionally designed and packaged Free Standing Pergola Kits in 8', 10', 12', and 16' widths; lengths are available from 10-20'. Other sizes can be accomplished simply by ordering more columns, beams, rafters, and vinyl shade. Colors available include white, black, almond, and clay. Vinyl Pergola kits typically include tapered PVC columns, PVC 2" x 8" beams with aluminum supports, 2" x 6" vinyl rafters with aluminum support, concrete post mounts for vinyl posts, vinyl pergola ends, rafter brackets, and all the screws and glue you should need (specifications, designs, and included parts subject to change on occasion - view specific product for details.) Complete specifications, material lists, and installation and assembly instructions are available on each product we offer. Always check local building codes for other possible requirements.
For custom sizes and designs, we offer most all of our vinyl pergola components individually. Shipping Practicalities: large items, say 8' and longer need to ship by LTL (Less-than-load) and are practical when several pieces are ordered for palletized shipment. Please do not ask us to ship you one 24' long piece of vinyl; it just isn't practical. Trucking companies do not like to carry this and the chances of damage are high. All smaller items ship easily by small parcel carrier and we ship these daily. We can review designs and assist with material lists for custom vinyl pergolas, however we do not offer custom design services. Please consult local building codes and officials for local advice to your area. Our recommendations will consist of reviewing typical spacing of posts, beams, rafters, and slats and components required to secure them together. Please review our standard kits to familiarize yourself with typical construction techniques. Complete material lists, specifications, and installation manuals are available online for your convenience.
