Read More: Vinyl Fence Overview
Most of our styles of vinyl fence and railing have routed posts. Posts are routed with holes to accept horizontal rails. It is therefore necessary to order end posts which have holes on one side to start or stop a run of fence, corner posts for a 90 degree or thereabout turn, or line posts which are used as intermediate posts to continue a fence run. Horizontal rails of PVC fence or railing slide into posts and need secured. Lock rings are popular, universal in design, and will work for a number of sizes of vinyl fence and railing horizontal rails. Prefabricated vinyl fence sections come with these in most instances. A small 1/4" hole or so is drilled in end of rail, lock ring is simply squeezed and insert in rail with small tabs protruding. Voila - rail has been locked into vinyl post! Lock rings are used on privacy styles and post and rail styles of vinyl fence, but also may be used on nearly any other style. These are excellent for repairs too. Bullet clips are very similar, but small and more popular with smaller picket styles of fence. Lastly, sometimes a tab is punched in end of rail with a large or small vinyl fence notcher, or picket creating a 'fishgill' type shape. Once vinyl fence rail/ picket is inserted, it can't be easily removed.
Very few screws or fasteners are otherwise used in our vinyl fencing and railing since vinyl fence is designed to have less protruding fasteners to get caught up on and/ or rust. Stainless steel screws are used for securing some picket styles which do not have a routed rail. Stainless steel screws, snap cap washers, and snap caps may be used to secure vinyl fence post caps securely and other trim.
