D&D Technologies 6-Pin Lock Information:
Many of the D&D lockable products use the 6-pin lock. All are keyed differently, and there are as many as 700,000 key combinations. The D&D 6-pin locks are also offered in optional "keyed-alike" models. Any product that is "keyed-alike" uses the same key.
6-pin locks can be re-keyed to someone's front door or to a master key at an apartment building. When it comes to obtaining key blanks, we find that the big box stores like Home Depot, Menards and Lowes don’t always carry the 6-pin Kwikset blank. BUT, the vast majority of locksmiths do. We recommend that only qualified locksmiths re-key the 6-pin locks.
These 6 pin locks are keyed to a Kwikset KW10 pathway. The locks are generically referred to as Schlage A type and are key-in-knob style cylinders. Most lock manufacturers make this style of lock, so locksmiths should have no problem re-keying them to manufacturers such as Schlage, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Yale, Sargent, Abloy, etc. Only someone with a 7-pin lock will not be able to re-key, but there is no problem if someone has a 5-pin lock. The 6th pin would simply not be used.
