Access control card readers are used for automated gates, electric locks, and automated commercial doors. Card readers add an additional layer of security over keypads since a physical card must be used to open/ close gates. Codes to keypads can easily be transferred and shared; cards are in limited quantity. Card readers used for access control such as self-storage gates, commercial office, and pedestrian gates also allow for monitoring activity. Many card readers feature numbered access cards corresponding to users. Card readers allow for easy addition and deletion of users, traffic monitoring, and are an inexpensive way to add accountability to users of shared automated gates, pedestrian gates with electric locks, and secured commercial doors.
