Hatteras Post Caps are a good choice for budget conscious applications. These caps offer good looks at a moderate price. Castine caps sold in box quantities only, rest sold individually. All sizes are nominal. Actual size for 4x4 nominal is 3-5/8" square, 5x5 nominal is 4-7/8" square.

A few notes about sizing. All sizes are 4" or 6" nominal - 3-5/8" and 5-5/8" actual. The sizes marked 4x4 are meant to fit over dimensional lumber that actually measures 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" square. Products marked 6x6 fit 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" dimensional lumber. Shown below is a 4x4 cap. As you can see it measures 3-5/8" on the inside dimensions which will slip right over a 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" post.
