Our Schedule 40, or Standard weight, as it is often called, is an industrial grade pipe used for commercial and industrial chain link fence projects. This product is available as an import (foreign), or domestic option. It is used for the framework, or 'skeleton' of the fence. Use for all horizontal rails, and posts. Can be purchased in full lengths or as cut posts for your convenience.

Full lengths are used as top rail and ordered to be cut to length. HF40 pipe is not available swedged, meaning the pipe will not taper on one end to fit into the next. You must use top rail sleeves also found in our online catalog to sleeve top rail pieces together.

Terminal posts for chain link fence are typically 36" longer than the height of fence being installed for commercial, i.e. a 6' high fence has 9' long terminal posts. Chain link line posts are typically 2-1/2' longer than the height of fence being installed for commercial, i.e. a 6' high fence has 8'6" long line posts. Check your local building codes and practices for proper installation.

Post length does not always correspond with footer depth. The footer should extend below the post to frost depth. A commercial fence with line posts 8-1/2' long would provide about 2'9" below ground. In many northern climates, the frost depth could be 3' or more. Pour footers to that frost depth and suspend the post in the concrete. This can be accomplished simply by pouring the concrete into the hole first and sticking the post to depth immediately afterward. With a proper concrete mix, the post will not require bracing to stay at the proper height.

Ordered steel fence posts 3 out of 5 stars

Ordered steel fence posts. Hoover dropped shipped from manufacturer. Trucking company did not verify this will be an urban residential delivery, nor was I asked if the delivery is residential. On day of delivery got call from driver and he was a few miles away and then told all the bridges near my home are too low for his 50-ft truck to pass through (he needs 13'-6" clearence). Unable to deliver. He said they could come back about three weeks later with a smaller truck for delivery. I did not want to wait additional three weeks for delivery so I had to rent a small truck and meet the driver the next day at a Home Depot parking lot. At Home Depot we unloaded the posts onto my rental truck. It cost additional $75 (truck rental) and spending three hours at Home Depot parking lot waiting. Had the shipping company looked into the route beforehand they could have loaded the material onto a smaller truck that could pass through the bridges. Received correct fence post order and fence pipes are good.
