How Do Aluminum Slide Gates Work?

All aluminum gate frames are supported from a heavy duty aluminum track by two sealed stainless steel gate trucks. Gate trucks are bolted to two truck hanger brackets which are then bolted to mounting posts. Bottom of gate is kept true and straight with bottom roller gate guides. The continuous aluminum gate track provides an enclosed alley for gate trucks to operate, free from dirt, debris, and weather elements. Pinch points are also virtually eliminated making our aluminum cantilever slide gates one of the safest in the industry. Gate frames feature welded aluminum construction and feature vertical, horizontal, and diagonal support to maintain structural integrity. Aluminum slide gates may be used manually or automated with an assortment of gate operators and access control devices.

How Do Aluminum Slide Gates Differ From Conventional Steel Cantilever Gates?

Internal track aluminum slide gates differ from conventional steel cantilever gates in their material of construction (aluminum v. steel), hardware design, and ease of operation. Aluminum track gates are lighter than steel cantilever gates and are considered to be superior due to the lower maintenance associated with aluminum construction. The internal, nearly-enclosed gate track and high quality stainless steel gate trolleys also operate smoother than conventional steel cantilever rollers with fully exposed gate frames which serve as a 'track'. Fence project budgets will also dictate which is used with the aluminum cantilever slide gates typically being more expensive. Both aluminum slide gates and steel cantilever gates are popular for self-storage gates, municipal applications, and a variety of other commercial and residential gated applications.

Installation of Aluminum Slide Gates

Installation procedures for aluminum slide gates and steel cantilever gates are similar. Generally, posts are set one day and allowed to cure in concrete. Gates typically deliver fully assembled and simply need hung from trucks or rollers. Installing posts and truck brackets plumb and level assures smooth gate operation. Exceptionally large gates may need shipped in more than one piece and assembly finished in the field. Two piece gates will be 'sleeved' for ease of assembly in the field.

There are three types of popular aluminum internal track slide gates: single track, double track and aluminum box frame gates.

Aluminum Cantilever Sliding Gates - Heavy Duty Single Track - Gates Up to 30' Wide

Heavy duty high quality slide gate track and stainless steel gate trolleys provide for smooth and effortless operations during open and close of gates. Aluminum slides gates are built with a single track for single gate openings up to 30' wide. 60' wide gate openings can be achieved by installing a double slide gate. Gate finish sizes can be as much as 50% more than the opening to allow for proper counterbalance. Single track aluminum gates typical use two 4" O.D. posts for mounting and one 4" latch post.

Single track cantilever gates are available in nearly in any common height of chain link fence such as 3', 3-1/2', 4', 5', 6', 7', 8' high. Gates are built with a finish height slightly lees than these heights to allow for space underneath the gate.

Any gate opening width up to 30' wide may use a single track aluminum slide gate.

Gates are available with and without barbwire (3-strands typical).

Aluminum double track slide gates are used for gate opening widths greater than 30' and up to 40'. An 80' gate width opening can be accomplished by installing one of our double slide gate systems. Gate finish sizes can be as much as 50% more than the opening to allow for proper counterbalance.

Four 4" O.D. posts are typically used for mounting truck hanger brackets and gate trolleys. 6-5/8" O.D. posts are available as an option, but are not required. Double track aluminum slide gates slide in-between the four mounting posts providing superior support and safety over single track cantilever gates. Double track and all welded gate design provides strength and smooth, effortless operation.

Double track cantilever gates are available in nearly in any common height of chain link fence such as 3', 3-1/2', 4', 5', 6', 7', 8' high. Gates are built with a finish height slightly lees than these heights to allow for space underneath the gate.

Any gate opening width up to 40' wide may use a double track aluminum slide gate.

Aluminum box frame gates are designed for especially large gate openings. Aluminum box frame gates utilize 'box frame' construction techniques to fight sagging caused by gravity and lateral sway caused by wind. Single slide gates can be constructed up to 60' wide. A double slide gate system can close up to a 120' wide gate opening!

Aluminum box frame gates are essentially two gates connected together by a series of welded aluminum diagonal and horizontal braces. Posts sizes and the quantity of posts can vary depending on the size of gate ordered.

Aluminum box frame gates are available in nearly in any common height of chain link fence such as 3', 3-1/2', 4', 5', 6', 7', 8' high. Gates are built with a finish height slightly lees than these heights to allow for space underneath the gate.
