.065 wall galvanized framework, or 'Tubing' as we refer to it as, is the most popular grade of galvanized round tube used for our residential grade chain link fence systems. Use for residential gates, kennel panels, fence toprail and posts, temporary fence panels, greenhouses, carports, and even yurts! 16 gauge .065 wall galvanized tubing is a versatile, durable, and quality product. Don't confuse this with an .055 or thinner weight framework found at many of the big box stores. The thinner material may not seem that much thinner, but it is. .065 wall 16 gauge tubing is the thinnest we prefer to use. For the very slight discount in price to use the thinner weight materials, we have found it to not be worth the savings. With a heavier weight framework and chain link fabric, you not only buy a little more strength, you also buy a better galvanized coating and finish. The thinner the material the sooner it will rust. Invest in something that will last!
Chain link fence tubing is used for the framework, or 'skeleton' of the fence. Use for all horizontal rails such as toprail, bottom rail, and midrails. Use for bracing and gates. Can be purchased in full lengths or as cut posts for your convenience.
This pipe is also commonly used in the following applications:
This is our residential grade framework system for chain link fence, if you are looking for heavier grade materials please consider our HF20 for commercial and HF40 for industrial fencing projects.

General Guidelines:
Residential Fences 5' High and Shorter - Use 1-3/8" or 1-5/8" top rail, 2-1/2" terminals, 1-5/8" line posts
Residential Fences 6' High - Use 1-3/8" or 1-5/8" top rail, 2-1/2" terminals, 2" line posts
Check your local building codes and practices for proper installation.
Note about pipe wall thickness: Common wall thicknesses for residential fence jobs include .035, .055, and .065 wall. Tubing with .035" and .055" wall thicknesses are commonly found at do-it-yourself centers. This is not a professional grade pipe and we do not recommend it for a long lasting fence. .065 is the minimum wall thickness we recommend for residential jobs. Thinner gauges can be bent over the knee and in time will sag between the posts from the weight of the chain link. The heavier the pipe used, the stronger. It can also be 'hot-dipped' longer in the galvanized solution without melting, meaning it will have a better finish and last longer without corroding. Cost differences between pipe are relatively minor and well worth the initial investment. Use HF20 or HF40 for best performance.

Chain link fence posts are typically spaced a maximum of 10' apart; 8' maximum post spacing and a heavier wall is recommended if privacy slats are to be used. Terminal posts are typically 2 1/2' longer than than the height of fence installed; line posts are typically 2' longer than the height of fence installed. The length of post does not necessarily correspond with the footer depth, or depth of hole to be filled with cement. There should be concrete underneath posts when installed. For best performance, cement all posts in concrete. At a minimum set all terminal posts in cement and drive line posts using a post driver. Line posts that are driven should also have spade post anchors installed to prevent leaning. Another strong alternative to cementing posts is to use Oz-Post drive in anchors.
