Safety Edges provide entrapment protection on automated gates and doors. Sensing Edges are touch-sensitive and will stop and/or reverse the gate opener when contact is made.
Gate Operators manufactured post-January 2016 will typically use a Monitored Sensing Edge, which detects fault conditions in the Edge. DoorKing and Linear/GTO Gate Operators use a 10k Resistive Monitoring Method. LiftMaster Gate Operators use a proprietary monitoring method, so only LiftMaster Sensing Edges should be used with Liftmaster Gate Operators. Non-monitored Sensing Edges are typically used with Gate Operators manufactured pre-January 2016.
