Find aluminum and steel metal fence posts from popular fence manufacturers and brands such as iDeal Aluminum.
Fence posts for ornamental aluminum and steel posts are available routed (with holes) to accept horizontal rails from fence section. End posts have holes on one side to start or terminate a fence line. Corner posts have holes on adjacent sides of fence posts for 90 degree or thereabouts turns. Line posts, or intermediate posts as they are called, have holes in opposite sides of posts to continue a fence line. Rails simple slide in and secure with a self-tap screw. Blank posts have no holes and are used for free standing hinge and latch posts. Blank posts are used on some styles throughout the fence style and fence rails attach with brackets throughout fence project.
Most residential styles have 2" square posts. Standard wall thicknesses are used for most typical end, line, and corner posts. Gate posts are usually a heavier wall to withstand the extra weight and stress of a gate. Some gate posts most also increase in size, for example 4" or 6" square may be recommended for gates exceeding a certain square foot size (depending on fence style and grade).
