I've been an electrical controls engineer for 40 plus years - many with Honeywell Process Control Division and now at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and I know that stuff out-of-the-box can arrive DOA. What happens next is as important as anything - customer service and the resolution to the problem. You've done a fine job for us. Our gates have been working without a hitch after you got our motor problem settled - really nice not to have get out of the truck in the pouring down rain to open the gates.

As you can see in the photos, we have 12 year old Jerith #202 as well as some brand new Jerith #202 so you can see both styles and how they age, etc. I hope you can use one or more of these in your marketing efforts. Dear Hoover Fence,
I just wanted to let you know how pleasantly surprised I was fixing my broken gate... I ordered the two units below but all I needed was one wheel and axle (not the steel box). I ordered two because I figured I would change both sides/wheels. I removed one new wheel and axles from it's new box. The new wheel fit perfectly within my existing box which is welded and would not have been easy to remove; I didn't use the new steel box for that wheel/side. For the other side (which still had an operational but very old wheel) I figured I would use the other new steel box and wheel as is to see how it mounted and would hold with just through-bolts which I used from the other unused steel box. Yes, I have two wheels on that one side but that side is much heavier because of some thicker steel and modifications to the gate. The old wheel is too worn to roll all the time so most of the weight is on the new box and wheel which seems to be holding-up great. Nothing usually works so easily and well for me I was just blown away with the results.

I had rented a post hole digger for the 26 post holes. There were so many rocks that it was rendered useless and 24 were done by hand. It was a couple of brutally hot days in August. This was the hardest part of the installation. The fence was fairly easy to install. The two end sections on three sides were cut to 6 feet each instead of an 8ft and 4ft section. I got this idea from another customer who submitted photos. It's a little more work but it looks better by being symetrical. Since it's a pool fence, the gate had to open outwards from the pool and the latching mechanism had to be on the inside to meet pool codes. I was stumped on how I was going to accomplish this using the standard gate hardware that was supplied. I really like the hardware that came with the gate and wasn't crazy about special pool gate latching mechanisms. I then figured I had to reverse the latch body (unscrewing the two halves and rotating 90 degrees) and swap the latch body and striker bolt. In other words, normally the gate post has the striker bolt mounted to it. With my set up, the gate post has the latch body mounted to it. There is a photo to better explain this. There are a few photos of me with my 14 year old son Alberto. It would of taken me a lot longer without his help. My daughter Gabriella was the official photographer and my wife Maria kept a supply of ice water coming. One of the last shots is me relaxing in the pool when it was complete. Next spring the concrete deck will be poured and I will send in a photo.

Customer's Comments: Hello, We have finished our railing project & have started our fence project. Just thought you might like to have some before and after pictures of the railing project. We resolved the issue we were having in attaching the railing to our brick steps. We found that you cannot use concrete anchors when attaching to brick. We drilled 1/2" holes approx. 2-1/2" deep and inserted 5/16" lead anchors which were 2 inches in length. We then attached the support posts using 2 inch lag screws. This allows us to tighten the post into place without breaking the brick. We've had a lot of compliments on the railing. As you can see, it is a definite improvement over the rusty iron railing we had in place previously. We'll send some pictures of our fencing project after completion.

I have enclosed the pictures of my recently completed fence in Wayne, NJ. It truly was a labor of love...and frustration, and muscle soreness, and, of course, rocks! New Jersey is full of them. When I started this project, I was very intimidated at the prospect of trying to install a fence by myself (unfortunately, it was by myself since my wife couldn't help me - she was tending to my baby girl and neither could any other guy friends I had). I had never done this kind of work, but everything I read on your website convinced me that digging the holes is the hardest part of the project. I received the order in May. You're probably thinking why has it taken me so long. The weekends we had this summer were awful. Most of them were cold and rainy. So I resorted to digging a hole each night when it wasn't raining when I came home from work during the week. It usually took me 2 hours per hole. I did this for a period of 5 weeks. I dug 27 holes. Anyway, here they are. I want to thank Billie for all of her help during this project. She was very thorough and detailed.

After completing my vinyl fence, I thought you might like to see some photos of the job. You may not remember me, but you sort of walked me through the purchase and the construction a few months ago. I wanted to build a fence on top of a retaining wall along the back of my property. Since the neighboring property is already about ten feet below mine, I didn't need six feet in height. Also because of a short section that is at a 45 degree angle at one end, and to make the rest of the sections all the same length, and because the last sections are on a sloping slab, I couldn't use any ready made fence sections. You assured me that I could custom fit the fence to any dimensions that I needed. I bugged you several times with phone calls and questions, and you were always very patient and helpful. Thank you for that!

I must also tell you how pleased I was with the quality of the product and the timely and accurate delivery of the material. The shipment arrived in perfect condition and was 100% accurate in content.

As the pictures show, the fence sections needed to be only about 45 inches high, and needed a gap at the bottom to be filled with brick after the fence was up. That is because there is about one foot of dirt above the retaining wall that was held up by a wall of brick. Sort of a retaining wall on top of the retaining wall. I didn't want to use the vinyl fence as a retaining wall; hence the brick wall under the fence. It sounds weird, but as the photos show, it came out great.

My homemade template worked very well. I used the one end post I ordered as a pattern to make the template. Due to the shortened height and length of the sections, it was necessary to cut virtually every piece that went into the fence, except the post caps. I also reduced the size of the Victorian Accent top so that it was proportional to the reduced height of the fence. The material was very easy to cut using a table saw for the small peices and a radial-arm saw for the longer ones. Routing the holes in the posts was a snap, and only took a few minutes for each one. Thanks to your suggestion of using the rebar clips, setting and plumbing the posts was no problem at all.

Unfortunately, the photos were taken before the concrete residue was cleaned off of the vinyl, and before the new landscaping was put in. It now looks even better.

I enclosed some photos of another vinyl fence in my neighborhood that apparently doesn't have any reinforcement in the bottom rail. You can plainly see the sagging bottom of the sections. I was impressed with the sturdy channel iron running through the bottom rail of your fence.

Hope I didn't bore you with all these drawn-out details, but I wanted you to know how pleased I am with the results in general, and your service and product in particular.

During the planning and design of this project, I tried everything I could think of to get a photo or drawing of your 50" preassembled gate in the Rothbury concave style. However, I could not locate anything and had to guess at what it would look like. It came out just fine and I'm very pleased even if the gate and fence are slightly darker in color than the Arbor. Attached photos show your Rothbury concave gate and fence posts with the Rothbury flat pickets and the Kingston Arbor.
