Double Straps with Central Eye Hardware Set – Between Post Installation (8312-S)
Our Double Strap Hinges with Central Eye Hardware Sets come complete with all the hardware required for a central mount/between post mount application. This set provides for heavy duty construction and maximum strength with easy adjustment. Double straps and pins are our best hardware combination for larger field gates, rail gates and entrance gates.
This hardware set includes the 8312 Central Eye Double Strap Hinge, 8250 Adjustable Bottom Gate Fitting, and a Pair of 8801 3/4" Threaded Adjustable Male Hinges.
These hinges are typically used for between post installations requires a 5" allowance between the gate and post for installation.
We offer these kits, in three sizes (12", 18", and 24") and two finishes (Hot Dip Galvanized and BPPCG). The 12" kits are designed for gates up to 4' wide, the 18" kits are designed for gates up to 7' wide, and the 24" kits will work for gate leafs up to 10' wide! Order one set per gate leaf on your project.
The double strap hinge and bottom gate fitting are designed to work with 3" thick gates. Double strap hinges sandwich the wood between the straps which helps to lock your corners at 90° which helps to prevent the gate from sagging. These kits are perfect for use with our Free DIY Wood Gate Plans.

- Each set includes one 12", 18", or 24" Double Strap with Central Eye (top of gate), one adjustable bottom gate fitting (bottom of gate) and two pins (8801-12” pins).

- Straps are 2" wide x 1/4" thick.
- Space between straps meant to accommodate 3" thick gates.

- Ideally used for heavy gates, such as rail gates, driveway entrance gates, dumpster enclosure gates, agricultural gates and the traditional English ‘Five Bar Gate’.
- Double strap hinges sandwich the gate between the straps, virtually locking the corner square at 90 degrees. This helps to prevent the gate from sagging.
- The "S" sets include our 8801 - 12" fully threaded adjustable pins which are typically used for installations centered between 2 posts. A 4-1/2" to 5" space is required between the gate and post.
Gate Installation Configurations
Hung Between the Posts
Gates hung between the posts can be hung on either a square or round post. Allow for a 5" space between the gate and the post (on hinge side) so that there is enough room for adjustment when it is necessary. The commonest pin used for this type of installation is the full threaded with nut and washer on either side of the post (#8800). Do not forget to leave the space at the other end of the gate to accommodate the kind of latch that is being used.

Here are a couple of pictures from our customer Doug out in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, who built a single Maine Board Gate along with a set of Double Gates using our DIY Wood Gate Plans. He installed these wire backed gates using a variety of Snug Cottage Gate Hardware. For hinges Doug chose the 12" Double Strap Central Eye Hardware Sets (8312-S122) and to latch the gates he used the Stainless Contemporary Cabin Hook (6270-06316) on the single, and a 15" Cane Bolt (5000-152) on the double.
