Heavy Duty Cranked Strap Hinge Hardware Set (8305-S)
Our Heavy Duty Cranked Strap Hinge Set includes two of our Cranked Strap Hinges and two matching mounting plates with 6" adjustable pins. This hardware set ensures a secure installation and provides full lateral adjustment to help prevent sagging over the years. The minimum gate gap is 1/2" between the gate frame and gate post. This hardware set is ideal for double driveway entrance gates, rail gates, and dumpster enclosure gates that are built with variable thickness. If your gate is 3" or 3-1/2" thick, you may want to check out our Heavy Duty Rear Eye Double Strap Hinge Hardware Sets (#8325-S/#8324-S).
We offer these kits in two finishes (Galvanized and Black BPPCG) and in four sizes: the 12" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 4' wide; the 18" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 7' wide; and the 24" and 36" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 10' wide. Order one set per gate leaf on your project. Your strap hinges should be 1/4 - 1/3 the width of your gate leaf.
This hardware set is designed to work with various gate thicknesses. The offset (crank) portion of the strap hinge allows for the eye of the hinge to align with the pin, keeping both the gate and the post flush on the same plane. This hinge set is designed to be through-bolted, which helps to lock your corners at 90° and to prevent the gate from sagging.
Heavy Duty Cranked Strap Hinge Hardware Set (8305-S) Features:- Extremely heavy duty!
- Intended for use on large and heavy gates that are constructed using wood or cellular PVC.
- Each set includes two 12", 18", 24", or 36" Cranked Strap Hinges and two mounting plates with 6" adjustable pins.
- Straps are 2-1/4"W x 3/16" thick.
- The hinge mount is approximately 10"H x 2"W with a 3/4" x 6" adjustable pin.
- Minimum 1/2" gate gap required between the gate post and gate leaf.
- Manufactured from forged steel.
- Available in Hot Dipped Galvanized or Black (BPPCG) finishes.
- Fasteners not included, but are available as a Fastener Pack with all the fasteners needed for mounting, see the link below in the "PARTS FOR THIS PRODUCT" section to select the correct size of fasteners needed for your application.
Ordering Notes:
Carriage bolts for this hinge set are sold separately. Each 12" - 24" Cranked Band Hinge requires one 1/2" and two 3/8" carriage bolts. Each 36" Cranked Band Hinge requires one 1/2" and three 3/8" carriage bolts. Each mounting plate requires five 3/8" carriage bolts.
Optional Back Plates are available for the hinge and the mounting plates, providing a more secure installation and a finished look on the front and back of your gate and post.
Your carriage bolts must be 1" greater than the length of your post and thickness of your gate. If you are using the optional Back Plates (#8256-BP/#8305-BP), then your carriage bolts need to be 1-1/2" greater than the length of your post or thickness of your gate. Back Plates and carriage bolt packs are shown in the PARTS FOR THIS PRODUCT section below.
All gates will require two Hinges per gate leaf. Only use three hinges per leaf if the gate is over 8'H.
If you are building a double gate, then you will need a minimum of one cane bolt/drop rod to prevent damage to your hardware and/or gate. Use two cane bolts/drop rods if you will need to hold both gate leafs open.

- It is best to drill through the post half-way, from both sides, to ensure perfect alignment. It is hard to drill straight through a 6" sq. post, so we recommend marking the position on both sides of the post and drilling only half-way through from each side. The hole from the second side will find the first, making the installation clean and tidy.
- Touch-up paint may be required for the bolt heads.
- This hardware set is ideal for double driveway entrance gates, rail gates, and dumpster enclosure gates that are built with variable thickness.
