Double Straps with Rear Eye Hardware Set - 3" Gap (8325-S)
Our Heavy Duty Rear Eye Double Strap Hinge Set includes two of our Rear Eye Double Straps for 3" thick gates and two matching mounting plates with 6" adjustable pins. This hardware set ensures a secure installation and provides full lateral adjustment to help prevent sagging over the years. The minimum gate gap is 1/2" between the gate frame and gate post. This hardware set is ideal for double driveway entrance gates, rail gates, and dumpster enclosure gates.
We offer these kits in two finishes (Galvanized and Black BPPCG) and in three sizes: the 12" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 4' wide; the 18" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 7' wide; and the 24" kits that are designed for gate leafs up to 10' wide. Order one set per gate leaf on your project.
This hardware set is designed to work with 3" thick gates. Double strap hinges sandwich the wood between the straps, which helps to lock your corners at 90° and to prevent the gate from sagging.
Double Straps with Rear Eye Hardware Set - 3" Thick Gates (8325-S) Features:- Extremely heavy duty!
- Intended for use on large and heavy gates that are constructed using wood or cellular PVC.
- Each set includes two 12", 18" or 24" Rear Eye Double Straps and two mounting plates with 6" adjustable pins.
- Straps are 2"W x 1/4" thick, with a 3" opening.
- The hinge mount is approximately 10"H x 2"W with a 3/4" x 6" adjustable pin.
- Minimum 1/2" gate gap required between the gate post and gate leaf.
- Manufactured from forged steel.
- Available in Hot Dipped Galvanized or Black (BPPCG) finishes.
- Color matched carriage bolts included for straps only.
Ordering Notes:
Carriage bolts for the hinge mounting plates are sold separately. Each mounting plate requires five 3/8" carriage bolts.
Optional #8256 Back Plates for Threaded Adjustable Pins are available for a more secure installation and a finished look on the front and back of your post.
Your carriage bolts must be 1" greater than the length of your post. If you are using the optional #8256 Back Plates, then your carriage bolts need to be 1-1/2" greater than the length of your post.
If your post is 6" square, then you may use the #FP-8256 fastener packs, linked in the PARTS FOR THIS PRODUCT section below.
All gates will require two Hinges per gate leaf. Only use three hinges per leaf if the gate is over 8'H.
If you are building a double gate, then you will need a minimum of one cane bolt/drop rod to prevent damage to your hardware and/or gate. Use two cane bolts/drop rods if you will need to hold both gate leafs open.

- It is best to drill through the post half-way, from both sides, to ensure perfect alignment. It is hard to drill straight through a 6" sq. post, so we recommend marking the position on both sides of the post and drilling only half-way through from each side. The hole from the second side will find the first, making the installation clean and tidy.
- Touch-up paint may be required for the bolt heads.
- Ideally used for heavy gates such rail gates, driveway entrance gates, dumpster enclosure gates, agricultural gates and the traditional English 'Five Bar Gate'.
- A minimum 1/2" gap is required between the gate and post.
- Double strap hinges sandwich the gate between the straps, virtually locking the corner square at 90° . This helps to prevent the gate from sagging.

Great products, but Bolts Not Long Enough 
I purchased double strap hinge sets for a new double gate I am building. They look great and will last forever. The only problem is the 6.5" carriage bolts for the mounting plates. The posts are true 6" rough cut cedar and I expected these bolts, as recommended for the plates, to work. However, when you subtract 1/8" for the head, 1/8" for the washer, and 1/4" thickness of the plate, the bolts barely peek out the rear of the post and the nuts will not catch.
