Stainless Steel Old-Fashioned Hinges (8292-SS)

The 8392-SS Stainless Steel Old-Fashioned Hinge Set from Snug Cottage Hardware is their top-of-the-line hinge offering. The strap is made from 4 mm (approx. 3/16") thick 304 stainless steel while the cups are investment cast 304 stainless steel to fit the 1/2" diameter pin on the strap. The 8292-SS hinges are available in 12" (8292-12SS), 16" (8292-16SS), and 24" (8292-24SS) lengths which makes this hinge ideal for all gate applications, even those in the most abusive of climatic conditions - including salty ocean air!

This hardware is ideal for use with Wood Gates. We also carry a version for Vinyl Gates (#8292-PSS).

What Size Hinge to Use? The general rule is that a hinge strap should be about 1/4 to 1/3 the width of the gate or door. If the gate or door is over 6’ tall, then a third hinge should be utilized (typically one hinge for every 3’ of height).
Can Be Flush Mounted or Jamb Mounted
This item is also available in a Galvanized (#8292) and Curved (#8292-C) version.

Please Note: Hinges require that a Carriage Bolt (preferred) or Lag Bolt be utilized on each hinge as shown Here. These are not included with the Hinge pairs because the length of bolt required will vary with the installation. Hinge sizes 7" to 16" require 3/8' dia. bolts and 24" requires 1/2" dia. bolts. You will need bolts 1" longer than the overall thickness of your gate or door.

Stainless Steel Old Fashioned Heavy Duty Hinge Installation Guide

Installation Diagrams: Flush Mount | Jamb Mount | Jam Mount with Filler Strip

Flush mounting is the most common method of installation. The hinge is mounted directly onto the face of the gate and post. We recommend a minimum 1/4" space be maintained between the gate and post to allow for expansion of the wood in changing seasons.
Jamb mounting requires the cast iron cups be mounted on the side of the post. The recommended spacing between the gate and post varies depending on the hinge length utilized and how it is applied to the gate. Please refer to our Installation Details for more information.
