Stainless Steel Old-Fashioned Hinges (8292-SS)
The Stainless Steel Old-Fashioned Hinge Set is a premium corrosion resistant hinge option with a traditional design that has been around since the 1850s! This hinge set is manufactured with 304 Stainless Steel (SS), then powder coated with Black Polyester, making it ideal for coastal areas and harsh climates! The Old-Fashioned design style compliments and enhances the classic New England Garden Style Gates and fence designs that are so popular within the fencing industry.
The strap is made from 4 mm (approx. 3/16") thick 304 SS, while the cups are investment cast 304 SS and made to fit the 1/2" 304 SS Pin. These hinges are available in 12", 16", or 24" lengths and are ideal for pedestrian gates, garden gates, barn doors, shed doors, carriage houses, and more!
When choosing your strap hinge, choose a hinge length that is 1/4 to 1/3rd the gate width. Optional Faux Hinge Fronts are available for this hinge set, which will provide a more secure installation and a finished look to the front and back of your gate.

Stainless Steel Old-Fashioned Hinge (8292-SS) Features:- Heavy duty exterior PVC and vinyl gate hardware that is ideal for coastal environments!
- Each set includes two 12", 16", or 24" strap hinges.
- Each strap is 3/16" 304 SS that has a Black Polyester Powder Coat finish.
- Color matched stainless steel wood screws (2" x #12) included.
- Carriage Bolts sold separately!
- Strap hinges are through bolted to help keep your gate corners square at 90° and to prevent the gate from sagging.
- Minimum 1/4" gate gap required to allow for seasonal expansion and contraction of the wood.
- Gates will open approximately 180° in one direction, folding back against adjacent fence or structure.
- Can Be Flush Mounted or Jamb Mounted
- This item is also available in a Galvanized (#8292) and Curved (#8292-C) version.
- Optional Faux Hinge Fronts can be purchased to add strength to your gate and provide a finished look on both sides of the gate.
Ordering Notes:
Carriage bolts for the hinge straps are sold separately! Each strap hinge requires one carriage bolt. Carriage bolts must be 1" greater than the thickness of your door/gate. If you are using the optional #8293 Faux Hinge Fronts, then the carriage bolts need to be 1-1/2" greater than the thickness of your gate/door.
All gates will require two Hinges per gate leaf. Only use three hinges per leaf if the gate is over 6'H.
If you are building a double gate, then you will need a minimum of one cane bolt/drop rod to prevent damage to your hardware and/or gate. Use two cane bolts/drop rods if you will need to hold both gate leafs open.
Optional Accessories:
Optional #8293 Faux Hinge Fronts are available for the strap hinges to ensure a more secure installation and to provide a finished look on the front and back of your gate. Snug Cottage Hardware offers latch styles for traditional or contemporary esthetics. Consider adding a traditional gate closer to your auto latching hardware so that your gate isn't left swinging open.

Installation Diagrams: Flush Mount | Jamb Mount | Jam Mount with Filler Strip
- Flush mounting is the most common method of installation. The hinge is mounted directly onto the face of the gate and post. We recommend a minimum 1/4" space be maintained between the gate and post to allow for expansion of the wood in changing seasons.
- Jamb mounting requires the cast iron cups be mounted on the side of the post. The recommended spacing between the gate and post varies depending on the hinge length utilized and how it is applied to the gate. Please refer to our Installation Details for more information.
